Indigenous Education
First Nations Education at St Clare of Assisi Primary School
At St Clare of Assisi Primary School, we are deeply committed to fostering a culturally safe and inclusive environment where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, and perspectives are respectfully and authentically embedded across all areas of learning.
Through initiatives such as our Yarning Circle, Aboriginal Garden, and Bush Play Area, students engage with Country in meaningful, hands-on ways that nurture connection, respect, and understanding. These spaces invite students to listen, reflect, and learn in ways that honour First Nations knowledge systems and ways of being.
We celebrate significant dates including NAIDOC Week and Reconciliation Week through whole-school liturgies, collaborative art projects, and student-led storytelling. These events ensure that First Nations voices are not only heard but are central to our learning community.
Our curriculum integrates Indigenous perspectives across subjects such as History, Science, Art, and Religious Education, helping students to develop a deeper appreciation of the richness and diversity of First Nations cultures. We also seek guidance and partnership with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders and community members, recognising the importance of community-led education.
Our approach aims to deepen cultural awareness, foster Reconciliation, and empower all students to become respectful, informed citizens who carry forward the light of understanding and justice. In living our school motto, Be the Light, we strive to be a community where hope, truth, and healing grow.
